Air quality health advisory

An air quality health advisory is in effect again today for Long Island and the rest of the metro New York region for fine particle pollution caused by smoke from Canada wildfires.

A heat advisory for heat index values of 100º-102º F, and an air quality health advisory for ozone are in effect Friday. There is also a risk of severe weather in the late afternoon-evening Friday.

With afternoon temperatures forecast to reach 99 degrees locally Tuesday and heat index values as high as 104, the area remains under a heat advisory through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Most of L.I. west of Riverhead Town is under an excessive heat warning.

Heat index values are expected to reach 100 across the Long Island region, with more moderate temperatures on the South Fork. An air quality health advisory for ozone and a heat advisory are in effect through Tuesday evening.
