Flood watch

Strong winds and potentially heavy rains will impact the region later today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

The local region is under a flood watch and wind advisory Saturday for steady rain, which may be heavy at times, and strong winds gusting to 45-50 mph.

More than 3 inches of rain and possibly a thunderstorm are in the forecast today, with winds of 25-35 mph, gusting to 55-60 mph, according to the National Weather Service forecast. A high wind warning is in effect.

Rain today, possibly heavy at times, may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations today, the National Weather Service said. A flood watch is in effect through late tonight for Suffolk County.

Heavy rain is possible across the region later today. tonight and tomorrow. A flood watch is in effect from 5 p.m. today through tomorrow afternoon.

A flood watch for this region has been extended until 2 a.m. Aug. 24, as the remnants of Henri will bring more rain to the region, the National Weather Service said in a statement this morning.

The National Weather Service has issued wind and coastal flood advisories for northeast Suffolk Friday. A flood watch is also in effect.

The National Weather Service has issued flood and high-wind watches for Long Island for Dec. 9 with a nor'easter forecast to bring heavy rain and damaging winds, with gusts up to 60 mph.
