Steady rain today — with the possibility of heavy rain and a thunderstorm this afternoon — has the region under a flood watch today and tonight, the National Weather Service said in a statement.
Strong winds of up tp 25 mph are expected out of the northwest this afternoon, gusting as high as 45 to 50 mph, the weather service said. A wind advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. today until 2 a.m. Sunday.
The rain could produce excessive runoff that may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, according to the weather service. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks and flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, the NWS forecast says.
A total of 2.5 to 3.5 inches of rain is forecast with locally higher amounts possible.
Sunshine returns tomorrow, but temperatures will drop almost 10 degrees from today’s high. Wind chill values early Sunday morning will dip to between 20 to 30 degrees.
