A coastal flood advisory has been issued for Friday night into Sunday morning for the north shore of Suffolk and Nassau County as Hurricane Lee passes about 250-300 miles east of Montauk, the National Weather Service said this afternoon.

Storm surge and erosion impacts are the biggest local concerns from Hermine, forecasters say. Surge will build to between two and four feet across eastern Long Island Sound and Peconic and Gardiners Bays Sunday and Monday.

We can expect fewer named storms than usual this season, but that doesn’t reduce the impacts of a major storm. “It only takes one hurricane or tropical storm making landfall in your community to significantly disrupt your life,” a FEMA official warns.
