Long Island Aquarium

The Long Island Aquarium has launched a poll to name four baby North American river otters born earlier this year to the residents of its Otter Falls exhibit.

The 14-foot long plexiglass sea turtle sculpture will be on display in front of the Long Island Aquarium for a few weeks until it is transported to Grangebel Park, where it will be a part of the Reflextions: Art in the Park events this summer.

When Jelly the river otter first arrived at Long Island Aquarium in 2008, she captured the hearts of staff members and guests alike with her inquisitive and energetic nature. No one knew then that Jelly's playful charm was only the beginning of an extraordinary journey that would impact lives far beyond the water of her pool in Otter Falls.

Food and retail shops will become — technically — the main attractions at the Long Island Aquarium, where the tanks and exhibits will be offered as something for members and paying guests to enjoy on their way to the aquarium's outdoor dining areas and outdoor retail shops.

The international Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums has granted accreditation to the L.I. Aquarium, which has been found to meet standards covering a dozen different areas, such as animal husbandry, training, water and environmental quality, education, scientific research, breeding and transportation.
