The Long Island Aquarium has launched a poll to name four baby North American river otters born earlier this year to the residents of its Otter Falls exhibit.

The ‘otterly’ adorable pups — two males and two females — will be named in honor of their paternal grandparents and the first two residents of Otter Falls, Peanut Butter and Jelly, aquarium officials said in a press release. To honor Jelly, the females will be named after fruits; the four choices available are Cherry, Fig, Kiwi or Peach. To honor Peanut Butter, the males will be named after types of nuts; the four choices available are Cashew, Pecan, Pistachio or Walnut.

The naming poll opened last week on the aquarium’s website. The winning names will be announced on Mother’s Day (May 11), according to the aquarium.

Flo and Stark, the aquarium’s resident North American River Otters, welcomed the four pups on Feb. 6, according to a press release from the aquarium. The pups are currently on exhibit at the Otter Falls habitat with their ‘motter,’ Flo; Stark, the pups’ ‘fotter,’ will be introduced to the family when caregivers feel the time is appropriate, aquarium officials said.

The birth of the otters coincides with the 25th anniversary of the aquarium’s opening. The Long Island Aquarium is celebrating its anniversary with discounts and special events. More details can be found on its website.

The aquarium is also holding an aquatic-themed art competition, with cash prizes for the winning artists. More details about the competition can be found on the aquarium’s website.
