National Weather Service forecast

The winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service yesterday has been canceled. Periods of light snow this morning will only accumulate to an inch or less across the North Fork, according to the latest forecast.

A blizzard warning is now in effect for 4 a.m. tomorrow through noon Sunday for Long Island, New York City and coastal portions of northeast New Jersey. A coastal flood advisory is also in effect for Saturday night.

A “significant Nor`easter storm” will impact our region this weekend, with snow, strong winds and coastal flooding, according to National Weather Service meteorologists.

All attention is focused on a rapidly deepening low that emerges from the eastern Gulf of Mexico Friday night and rapidly tracks up the eastern seaboard Saturday, passing near the 40N 70W benchmark.

A passing Alberta Clipper will drop up to 1 in. of snow on LI tonight/tomorrow. A coastal storm Saturday will produce either "significant snow" or "significant icing."
