A power outage spanning from Shoreham to Aquebogue left more than 2,000 customers without electricity this afternoon, according to PSEG Long Island's outage map.

PSEG will reimburse customers who experienced a power outage for at least 72 hours for spoiled food and medicine.

PSEG Long Island participated in Utility Scam Awareness Day. This day is part of a national campaign that spreads awareness and education about potential scams.

Utility contractors will replace existing wires, install new and more durable poles, install or replace switching equipment, and transfer main line wires underground in select rear properties — upgrades to help reduce the number of customers affected by an outage, the utility said.
