Memorial Day ceremonies in Riverhead were very different today, but they did take place. The Riverhead Combined Veterans Committee held solemn ceremonies at two of the town's war memorial sites this morning. Photos and video.

Riverhead honors those who served

Members of the Riverhead VFW Post 2476 and American Legion Post 273 and the Riverhead VFW Post 2476 Auxiliary laid wreaths at the base of the granite World War I monument.

Honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice: a day to remember

Riverhead has sacrificed native sons in nearly all of the major armed conflicts fought by the United States since its inception. Today, the townspeople came together to honor their memory and give thanks for their sacrifice.

Rain dampens attendance, but not the spirit, of Memorial Day ceremonies

Riverhead's Memorial Day parade and ceremonies went forward despite the rain this morning, though the parade was small and attendance sparse.
