Saturday is Veterans Day, a legal public holiday to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. in Riverhead and 1 p.m. at Calverton National Cemetery.

Veterans Day ceremonies held today in Riverhead and at Calverton National Cemetery honored the nation's military veterans with prayer, wreaths, music and remembrances.

Today is a day of remembrance set aside to remember the 1.3 million people who gave their lives in military service to our country since 1775. There will be solemn ceremonies and a parade around Riverhead this morning to commemorate Memorial Day 2021.

Riverhead's Memorial Day parade will return this year, after being canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Members of the Riverhead VFW Post 2476 and American Legion Post 273 and the Riverhead VFW Post 2476 Auxiliary laid wreaths at the base of the granite World War I monument.
