The Southampton Town Police Department tonight announced the death of Police Chief Steven Skrynecki.Skrynecki, 69, joined the Southampton Town Police Department six years ago after a 42-year career with the Nassau County Police Department, retiring as chief of the department.

The arrest follows a police investigation into a 2017 case in which the man engaged in sexual conduct with a child less than 17 years of age, police said.

A Hampton Bays man was arrested yesterday in connection with the theft of a vehicle reported stolen from a Flanders business and items stolen from additional vehicles in the Flanders area, Southampton Town Police said in a press release last night.

The Southampton Town Police Department will hold a civilian academy program beginning Jan. 26. The academy will run for 14 weeks, one night per week, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Southampton Town Police Headquarters in Hampton Bays.
