A Northampton man has been charged with Rape in the First Degree after turning himself in yesterday to Southampton Town Police.

The arrest follows a police investigation into a 2017 case in which Jose Hernandez, 39, engaged in sexual conduct with a child less than 17 years of age, police said.

Hernandez was arraigned and held on $10,000 bail, according to a police press release.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
