World Trade Center Memorial

Riverhead officials called for the return of national unity during a prayer service commemorating the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Local officials and other community members gathered at the town’s World Trade Center Memorial Park in Calverton this morning for a prayer ceremony honoring those who lost their lives in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Riverhead Town will hold a ceremony at World Trade Center Memorial Park in Calverton on Saturday, Sept. 11 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Riverhead Town officials joined in prayer and reflection for a wreath-laying ceremony at the World Trade Center Memorial in Calverton this morning.

“I thought that people needed a place to come to, where they could sit and reflect, meditate or pray,” Calverton resident Hal Lindstrom said this morning at the memorial park he conceived 18 years ago. “I knew I had to do this."
