“This budget is going to be filled with tough choices, but we need to do what’s right forLong Islanders,” Alessi said. “We must make our state government more cost-effective andefficient before making cuts to the vital services that New Yorkers depend on.”
The purpose of the meeting is for Assemblyman Alessi to hear directly from constituents about their concerns in regards to the state budget and suggestions they may have to reducespending.
Residents can view the Assembly Ways and Means analysis of the Executive Budget by visiting http://assembly.state.ny.us/Reports/WAM/2010Yellow/, and Alessi encourages residents to forward suggestions ahead of time to his district office or by alessim@assembly.state.ny.us with the subject line “2010 Budget.”
“I will continue fighting to ensure that the cuts made are responsible and fair, and that nonew taxes and fees are forced upon New Yorkers,” Alessi said. “We need to explore alternativeways to balance this budget. By consolidating agencies where there is waste, we can streamlinegovernment and save money without further burdening the people of New York.
“Families all across New York have already learned to do more with less and it’s time forAlbany to follow suit,” Alessi said. “Balancing the budget on the backs of these families is notresponsible governing and I won’t stand by and support it.”
