The first Phillips Avenue Community Festival last Saturday drew crowds of over 700 people in a celebration of the Riverhead community.

The festival aimed to bring together the Riverhead community in the same way that principal Debra Rodgers has been bringing Phillips Avenue students together all year in what she calls a “learning community.”

There was an abundance of activities to entertain festival-goers, including a carnival, performances on the Riverhead showmobile, a Chinese auction and booths from local organizations, government departments and local businesses.

All the money raised from the festival will be used to provide all Phillips Avenue Elementary School students with individual school supplies for the 2011-2012 school year.
