Dust off that old pair of rollerskates, because the popular ‘70s pastime is making a comeback in Riverhead.
Dozens of Riverhead rollerskaters participated in the third Roller Disco night last Friday at the Stotzky Park roller rink. The rink, which is always open free to anyone during regular Stotzkty Park hours, was transformed with disco music and refreshments by the Riverhead recreation department.
“This is the third time we’ve done this, and we’ve gotten a bigger crowd each time,” said Tom Filgate, Riverhead recreation program coordinator.
The first two Roller Disco nights took place last September and October, and Filgate said another will definitely take place next fall.
“People really like the music and refreshments and the skates provided for them,” said Filgate. Rentals are provided at the rink for $5 a pair exclusively during the Roller Disco events.
The fee to participate in a Roller Disco night is $5 in advance and $10 at the door. The Stotzky Park rink is otherwise open free to the public.
