A 33-year-old woman was taken to the hospital this afternoon after a high-speed single-car crash on Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow.

The woman, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, according to police.

The car, westbound on Sound Avenue, veered off the road west of Osborn Avenue and struck a boulder and a utility pole shortly before 5 p.m., police said. The impact pushed the boulder into the roadway and snapped the pole in half.

Police closed Sound Avenue in both directions at Osborn and Twomey avenues, while Riverhead Town highway crews cleared the boulder from the road and LIPA crews repaired the pole and lines.

No summonses were issued to the driver of the vehicle, whom police did not identify.
