Six people were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center following a three-car crash on Roanoke Avenue Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred just before 12:30 at the intersection of Roanoke and Merritts Pond Road, located less than a half-mile south of Route 58.
Roanoke Avenue was closed to traffic for about 45 minutes while police and emergency workers were on the scene.
Flanders-Northampton, Mattituck responded to help Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance transport the accident victims. Riverhead has two ambulance rigs out of service due to mechanical problems Sunday afternoon, leaving it with just two ambulances to answer all calls. Wading River Fire Department sent an ambulance to stand by at Riverhead headquarters while Riverhead’s remaining two ambulances were busy with the crash victims.
None of the injuries was believed to be life-threatening, according to reports.
