Miguel Maysonet’s quest to join an NFL team has apparently led him back home.

Newsday is reporting that the former Blue Waves star running back is expected to sign to the N.Y. Jets practice squad today.

Maysonet was signed to the Chargers practice squad earlier this month but was released shortly thereafter.

The free agent was cut by the Colts last month, nine days after being signed to their practice squad.

Maysonet was waived the by the Cleveland Browns in late August. The 5-10, 210-pound All-American running back was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent right after the NFL draft ended, but he was waived in May and then picked up by the Browns.

Signed by Hofstra out of high school, Maysonet transferred to Stony Brook after his freshman year, when Hofstra terminated its football program. He was runner-up for the Walter Payton Award last year, when he rushed for 1,964 yards for Stony Brook last season, the 11th most yards in a season in FCS history, and scored 23 total touchdowns. He finished his college career with 5,110 yards 17th all-time in Football Championship Subdivision history. Maysonet was named Big South player of the year for 2011 and 2012.

As a key player for the Riverhead Blue Waves, Maysonet rushed for 5,963 yards, scored 74 touchdowns and a total of 468 points. In his senior year, Maysonet rushed for 2,328 yards and scored 33 touchdowns, leading the Blue Waves to a perfect 12-0 season and the Rutgers Trophy. He was the 2008 Hansen Award winner, given to the most outstaning football player in Suffolk County. He was named to the All-New York State team in 2008, and to the All-Long Island and All-County teams in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He was also named Division MVP in 2007 and 2008.

Each NFL team may keep up to eight members on its practice squad in addition to its 53-member regular roster.
