Dense fog advisory Sunday, Jan. 4

A dense fog advisory is in effect for Suffolk County this morning and will remain in effect until 10 a.m., the National Weather Service says.

Visibilities will frequently be reduced to one-quarter mile or less, according to the advisory. Motorists should slow down, use low-beam headlights and leave plenty of distance in case a sudden stop is needed.

Today   Showers with isolated thunderstorms. Areas of dense fog this morning. Patchy fog this afternoon. Visibility one quarter mile or less at times this morning. Breezy and not as cool with highs in the upper 50s. Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent.

Tonight   Cloudy with showers likely in the evening…then partly cloudy after midnight. Breezy with lows in the mid 30s. West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Monday   Mostly sunny and windy. Much cooler with highs in the mid 30s. West winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

Monday Night   Partly cloudy and windy. Much cooler with lows around 14. Northwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph… Diminishing to 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph after midnight.

Tuesday   Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of snow. Highs in the upper 20s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Gusts up to 20 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night   Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow in the evening. Lows in the lower 20s. Chance of snow 40 percent.
