Suffolk County National Bank celebrated 125 years in business yesterday.

On February 18, 1890, SCNB first opened its doors for business in Riverhead. The Bank was established to provide services to the local community and to foster the regional economy of eastern Long Island.

SCNB completed its first day of business with $5,539 in deposits. By the end of that first year in business, the Bank had grown their deposits to $146,000. At year-end 2014, SCNB reported total assets of $1.90 billion, including total loans of $1.36 billion, and total deposits of $1.56 billion.

SCNB kicked off its 125th Anniversary celebration by ringing the NASDAQ closing bell on January 28, 2015 where the Bank’s 125th Anniversary Commemorative Logo made its debut. The anniversary will continue to be celebrated year-long with bank-wide events, promotions and festivities.

Howard C. Bluver, President and CEO commented, “While we have recently expanded our service area into Nassau County and the Boroughs of New York City, our dedication to the businesses and consumers on the East End of Long Island and throughout Suffolk County is without question. The recognition that SCNB continues to receive in its local markets is extremely gratifying. As we look back at our achievements, it is an exciting time for SCNB, and we begin 2015 bolstered by confidence in our recent success and our prudent growth strategies.”

In 2015, SCNB will also be honored for its commitment to the region by the East End Arts at its Artworks Spring Gala, by the American Heart Association at its Annual Hamptons Heart Ball, and by Long Island Cares at its upcoming Golf Classic.

SCNB is the wholly owned subsidiary of Suffolk Bancorp, a one-bank holding company, and is one of the largest community banks on Long Island. A full service commercial bank headquartered in Riverhead, SCNB serves its clients through its branches and regional commercial offices, and through online channels.
