Cross Sound Ferry has added a new vehicle/passenger ferry for the 2016 season that will help the company transport customers during summer and holiday peak travel times.
Cross Sound Ferry Services purchased the Pamlico, a 50-auto, 300-passenger ferry, from the North Carolina Ferry Division.
It is a mid-sized vessel, with a smaller capacity than the John H. and Susan Anne, and will primarily operate during peak travel times, the company said.
The Pamlico is presently undergoing renovations at Thames Shipyard & Repair Company in New London. Cross Sound anticipates the new vessel entering service in June, when it will become the ninth in the ferry company’s fleet. It will be renamed before entering service, the company said.
“We needed a vessel that complimented the level of service provided on our other ferries such as the John H. and Susan Anne. These amenities include spacious, climate-controlled passenger cabins, ample and comfortable seating, full food and beverage service and entertainment options,” Cross Sound Ferry president John P. Wronowski in a press release.
