(Update: Feb 12, 5 a.m.) Last night’s power outage was caused by a downed primary wire on Route 58, PSEG-LI spokesperson Elizabeth Flagler said. All customers affected by the outage were restored within about 45 minutes.

Original story: More than 1,200 PSEG customers in western Riverhead and Calverton lost power this evening.

PSEG-LI  was not able to immediately determine the cause of the outage, according to spokesperson Elizabeth Flagler. The Route 58 commercial corridor, including the outlets and several large shopping centers were left in the dark. Street lights and traffic signals were out between the L.I. Expressway and Osborn Avenue.

“We have crews out trying to figure out what the cause is right now,” Flagler said.

The Riverhead Fire Department responded to an alarm at Adchem that was triggered by the outage, according to the fire chiefs who responded to investigate the alarm.

Power was restored by about 9:15 p.m.
