A large wooden storage building at a Sound Avenue business in Northville burned to the ground early this morning.
Jamesport Fire Department quickly got the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to an attached greenhouse and main building at John Mazur Lumber and Salt, the former home of Landscape Adventure.
“It was pretty much already burned almost to the ground when we got there,” Jamesport Fire Chief John Andrejack said in an interview this morning. “The heat of the blaze ignited a Dumpster and some piles of large timbers behind the building,” he said. “Fortunately, we were able to keep it from spreading to the greenhouse and main structure.”
The 20-foot by 70-foot wooden barn was used for storage on the site, the chief said.

Riverhead fire marshals Craig Zitek and David Andruskiewicz were investigating the scene this morning, looking for clues as to the cause of the blaze. They have not yet reached a determination, Andruskiewicz said in a phone interview.
Jamesport Fire Department responded to the call at 2:58 a.m. with three engines and 25 firefighters, Andrejack said.
Mattituck Fire Department was called to stand by at Jamesport’s headquarters.
“The entire incident was over by 4:48 a.m.,” Andrejack said. “We were on scene within nine minutes and had the fire under control in 20 minutes. The large parking lot and clearance around the building gave us great access and that made the difference,” he said.
