There will be a silent Election Eve candlelight prayer vigil in Grangebel Park Monday.

The vigil is sponsored by the Riverhead Clergy Council to “offer a time of quiet reflection and prayer on the eve of the election in a place where all people are welcome.”  People of  all faiths, races, genders, ages, religions and beliefs, the clergy council said in a press release yesterday.

“This election cycle has been unusually bitter and disillusionary. We see people’s frustration and anger manifested in ways that tear down rather than build up. Divisiveness rules at a time when peace and hope should bind,” the clergy council said.

“There will be no sermon, no spoken prayers. We will gather in silence and candlelight to reflect and pray for our country,” the clergy council said in a press release.

“We are on the brink of a future that is tainted with cynicism, violence and climatic disaster. While one evening will not change the course of our history, a gathering will strengthen each other’s hope and resolve.”
