The Riverhead Blue Waves boys basketball team fell to Northport last night at Riverhead High School, 43-37.
What proved to be a tough loss for Riverhead due to turnovers, bad passing, and missed baskets was an easy giveaway to Northport.
Riverhead initially came out flying, scoring the first basket and playing a solid defense. It seemed it would be an easy night for a win.
But then they self-destructed with a series of no-look passes to no one. Rebounding was scarce, and by the half, the score was 21-16 Northport.
Riverhead came out again flying in the third quarter, grabbing loose balls and causing Northport turnovers. It seemed the tide had changed – they were even ahead by eight points in the third quarter. But to no avail – in the fourth quarter, Northport figured out the Riverhead puzzle and pulled away for the 43-37 victory.
Riverhead boys basketball’s next home game is Tuesday, January 17 at 4:30 p.m.
