Six people were arrested on drug charges following an East End Drug  Task Force raid on a Melene Avenue home yesterday, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release this afternoon. 

Police said the task force executed a warrant at 26 Melene Avenue in Riverhead and recovered quantities of crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana, drug scales and cash during the search.

According to the report, Charles Gamble, 35, of Albany Avenue, Flanders and Kotarra Jackson, 35, of 26 Melene Avenue were each charged with:

  • two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (intent to sell);
  • two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (narcotic drug);
  • criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second (scales); and
  • criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Jackson was additionally charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree, police said.

According to the report, Madison Murrell, 35, of Sweezy Lane, Middle Island was charged with:

  • criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (intent to sell);
  • criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, (narcotic drug);

Police said James Clayton, 37, of Moriches was charged with:

  • two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (intent to sell);
  • criminal possession of a controlled substance fifth degree.
  • criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh

William R. Brown, 30, of Shirley was arrested for an outstanding parole warrant, police said. He was additionally charged with:
criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Ryan Evans, 26, of Ludlam Ave, Riverside was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

Murrell, Jackson and Brown are currently on parole for drug or weapons related charges, police said.

The search was the result of ongoing investigations of drug sales and gang activities in eastern Suffolk County and in particular, Riverhead. The Riverhead Town Police, Suffolk County Police Emergency Services, New York State Police and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Gamble, Jackson, Murrell, Brown and Clayton were held overnight in Riverhead Town lockup for arraignment at Riverhead Town Justice Court. Evans was released on a desk appearance ticket.

The East End Drug Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement unit funded by the office of Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota. The task force includes detectives, police officers and law enforcement personnel from the New York State Police, Suffolk County Police Department, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Suffolk County Department of Probation, Southampton Town Police Department, Riverhead Police Department, East Hampton Town Police Department, , Southampton Village Police Department, Southold Town Police Department, DEA, Homeland Security and Suffolk County District Attorney Investigators.
