Riverhead defeated Copiague 34-20 at Coach Mike McKillop Field on Homecoming Day.
It was a humid, rainy, soggy afternoon for Riverhead’s homecoming today. The Blue Waves came out just a little slow to start, allowing Copiague to score first. But the rest of the game was different story.
Riverhead (3-3) needed to come away with the win today, and that’s exactly what they did. The Blue Waves pounded the ground with superb running from the backfield combination of Lawrence Bishop and Albert Daniels, with both scoring touchdowns, as well as Tommy Powers, who continues to make great catches and Dean Koukounas, who snagged a sideline throw despite tight coverage.
Quarterback Christian Pace was also in the zone, connecting on passes, running, and playing a solid game.
The Riverhead defense played well, to round things out for a much-needed win. Darnell Chandler, made a great touchdown catch and recovered a Copiague fumble on a sack by Riverhead defensive end Tyjon Hawkins.
The Waves’ next home game is Saturday, October 28 at 1:30 p.m. It is senior day.
