Riverhead’s indoor farmers’ market opened for the winter season today.
The farmers’ market will be open for business every Saturday at 117 E. Main Street through the end of March, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Vendors at the market are selling locally sourced products of all kinds, including produce, dairy, meats, fish, baked goods and artisan wares.
The Riverhead Business Improvement District opted out of sponsoring the market this year, but Lucy Senesac, farm manager at Sang Lee Farms in Peconic spearheaded an effort to keep the Riverhead Farmers’ Market alive. She contacted Bernadette Martin of LI Greenmarket Inc. and pitched the idea of the organization getting involved in Riverhead. LI Greenmarket already operates farmers’ markets in Long Beach, St. James and Kings Park.
Senesac and Martin were both on hand today for the grand opening.
“We’re very happy to be involved in the Riverhead market,” Martin said.
