A multiple vehicle crash involving a school bus on Route 25A in Wading River sent two people to area hospitals this afternoon.
None of the children on the bus were injured.
A Chevy pickup truck traveling eastbound on Route 25A crossed into the westbound lane just west of Dogwood Drive and struck a westbound Honda pickup shortly after 3 this afternoon, according to Riverhead Town Police on the scene. The Honda was spun by the impact and crashed into the rear quarter panel of an eastbound school bus carrying 10 children from Wading River Elementary School. A fourth vehicle was struck by debris from the crash.
The Chevy truck continued into a parking lot on the north side of the road and struck three parked cars, police said. The driver of the Chevy may have had a medical emergency according to emergency personnel. He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Wading River Fire Rescue. The driver of the Honda was taken by Wading River to Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson. Both men suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.
The road was closed to traffic in both directions for about 90 minutes.
