The Riverhead Highway Department’s popular truck show for kids will return later this month, giving children a chance to get an up-close look at the department’s trucks and equipment.
The free event will be held Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Riverhead Highway Department yard, 1177 Osborn Avenue in Riverhead.
Highway Superintendent Mike Zaleski started the event in 2024 as a free outing for kids and their families. The first truck show drew an unexpectedly large crowd, with about 200 to 300 people attending, and the department brought it back for a second year in 2025.
Last year’s show drew more than 200 people and included a play area with sand and toy trucks — an attraction Zaleski said turned out to be one of the biggest hits with children. Kids also had the chance to see highway department vehicles and equipment and talk with department employees.
Refreshments will be available for children attending this year’s event, according to the flyer for the 2026 show. Children are welcome to bring their own toy trucks to use in the play area.
