A rollover on Middle Country Road in Calverton sent the driver to the hospital and cracked a utility pole this morning.
The driver of a westbound SUV lost control of his vehicle, and skidded across the eastbound lane and off the roadway into a utility pole, according to Riverhead Town police. The single-car crash took place shortly after 11 a.m. on the snow and ice-slicked pavement.
No tickets were issued, police said. The man was transported by Wading River Fire Department Rescue to Peconic Bay Medical Center. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Police urge motorists to use extra care driving today. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate this afternoon as snowfall intensifies. Leave extra time and drive slowly.
