Riverhead Central School District residents will be asked to approve Riverhead Free Library’s proposed $3.99 million operating budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

The budget calls for a tax levy increase of $239,834 or 6.7 percent over last year’s tax levy. The overall spending increase is $240,014, driven largely by increased personnel costs.

In addition to a $3.8 million tax levy, the budget anticipates contract revenue of $125,920, state aid of $11,000, revenue from bus trips and programs of $12,000 and $25,000 in revenue from fines and fees.

Also on the library ballot tomorrow is the election of four trustees. Three seats are for a three-year term (July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2012) and one is for an unexpired term (July 2, 2018 through June 30, 2019).

Three incumbents trustees are seeking re-election: Louise C. Wilkinson, John Munzel and Dean Terchunian. Two newcomers seeking election are Janet O’Hare and Ron Wood.

Polls will be open from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. tomorrow at the library.

When voters go to the polls on the library budget proposal, they are technically voting on a contract between the Riverhead Central School District and the Riverhead library management association. The library is not a separate taxing district. The library vote has traditionally been held separately from the school district budget vote, as allowed by state law.

Last year, voters approved the Riverhead Free Library budget by a vote of 148 to 88.
