The Butterfly Effect Project will be hosting its fourth annual WO/MAN EMPOWER WO/MEN luncheon on Saturday, May 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Riverhead Senior Center. The organization will be honoring those in and around our community who strive to make our community a better place.
This year’s honorees include Ronald Fisher, Women of the Moose, Dr. Lillian Pennon, Regina Hunt and Carolyn Braunskill. The Butterfly Effect Project will also honor one of its junior volunteers, 14-year-old Kenyatta Nash of Riverhead.
According to its website, the Butterfly Effect Project is a nonprofit, community-oriented organization started by Tijuana Fulford. It was Fulford’s goal to start a totally free program that would empower young girls, giving them the tools to assist in achieving emotionally stable and self-confident futures, in hopes of bringing forth a generation of women who are strong, independent and knowledgeable. The Butterfly Effect Project aspires to ensure that every girl enrolled in the program has a fair chance to broaden her horizons by eliminating obstacles such as mobility, cultural differences and finances.
In the past several years, the group has awarded its members scholarships, sent them to camp and helped with back-to-school supplies, groceries, musical instruments, clothing and other needs. To help offset the costs of these grants, BEP is looking for sponsors. Individuals or groups wishing to become sponsors can click here for details.
Tickets for the event are $15 and can be purchased online.
There will be a performance by the butterflies and a Chinese auction during the luncheon.
