Overnight L.I. Expressway lane closures are planned this week for lane re-striping work, the State Department of Transportation announced.

The eastbound left and HOV lanes will have closures between exits 48 and 64 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

The westbound left and HOV lanes will have closures between exits 65 and 51 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.

This work is part of a $6.9 million project to re-stripe lane markings on 14 state roads in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the DOT said. Lane markings are generally repainted every few years.

Work on the Long Island Expressway is expected to be completed this fall.

Message signs have been placed in the area to alert motorists and will carry additional details as well as updates.

Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, obey any speed restrictions that may be in place, and the instructions of the flag persons for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew.
