Riverhead Town Police are reminding residents and visitors to expect significant traffic delays this weekend “as fall begins and harvest season gets into full swing.”
“There will be heavy congestion on all major east-west roads with the Maritime Festival taking place in Greenport and with additional special events on Sound Avenue,” police warned in a press release.
Residents should plan accordingly and leave plenty of time to get to their destination, police said.
In case of an emergency, please call the Riverhead Police Department at 911. For non-emergency calls use (631) 727-4500.
- Police offered the following “travel tips” for residents:
- Add extra time to your travel plans
- Residents should conduct errands early in the morning or in the late afternoon
- When exiting a business onto a busy road think about making a right turn only
- Eastbound traffic heaviest late morning through early afternoon
- Westbound traffic heaviest mid to late afternoon
