Riverhead Police arrested two people Sunday after a compliance check targeting the sale of vape products to customers under age 21, according to a police media release.
The Riverhead Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (COPE) Division, in cooperation with the Riverhead Community Awareness Program (CAP), conducted checks of 10 retail establishments in Riverhead Town on July 19 in an effort to reduce underage vape sales, police said.
Police said the following locations were found not to be in compliance:
7-Eleven, 870 Old Country Road, Riverhead
Gotham Smoke Riverhead, 1085 Old Country Road, Riverhead
Police said Yaqoob Naseer, 62, of Ridge, an employee of 7-Eleven, was arrested and charged with one count of unlawful dealing with a child in the second degree (Penal Law 260.21, subdivision 3), a class B misdemeanor. Naseer was processed and released on a desk appearance ticket with a future court date, police said.
Police said Yavuz Erdogan, 55, of Middle Island, an employee of Gotham Smoke Riverhead, was arrested and charged with one count of unlawful dealing with a child in the second degree (Penal Law 260.21, subdivision 3), a class B misdemeanor. Erdogan was processed and released on a desk appearance ticket with a future court date, police said.

American Gas, 1427 Main Road, Jamesport,
Bapa Vapor & Smoke Shop, 763 Old Country Road, Riverhead c
7-Eleven, 1050 Old Country Road, Riverhead
Valero, 1356 Old Country Road, Riverhead
Empire Gas, 1050 Osborn Ave, Riverhead
Bolla Mobil, 1575 Old Country Road, Riverhead
One Stop Smoke Shop, 1698 Old Country Road, Riverhead
