A portion of Mill Road is closed to traffic due to a motor vehicle accident involving a county transit bus at the intersection of Mill and Route 58.
Update: Riverhead Police announced at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday that the traffic light at the intersection of Route 58 and Mill Rill Road had been repaired and the road was open without restrictions.
Original story:
Suffolk County Transit bus appears to have run off the road and up onto the grass berm near the southwest corner of the intersection.
It does not appear that any other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. There were three passengers on the bus at the time of the accident, according to police.
The cause of the accident is not clear. Police are investigating.
A metal box on the utility pole at the intersection is detached from the pole and lying on the ground. The traffic signal at the intersection is not operational. Riverhead Police are at the scene directing traffic.
“Mill Road from Industrial Boulevard to Route 58 will be closed due to a damaged pole from a motor vehicle crash,” police said in an advisory.
Traffic on Route 58 has been impacted in the area of the intersection. Motorists should avoid the area, police said.
