Riverhead Central School District third-graders at Roanoke Avenue Elementary School learned firsthand about the sacrifices and service of American heroes during a Veterans Day event on Nov. 9.
Local veterans Virginia Figueroa, Barry Gilmore, Brian Mooney and Raul Valentin visited the school to speak to the third-graders about their experiences in the military and to answer questions the students asked.
After learning about the veterans, the students treated them to lunch and thanked them for their service.
