The Wading River Fire Department is launching its 2018 Stuff-A-Bus food drive this weekend.
“With Thanksgiving arriving early this year, the Wading River Fire Department has ramped up its Christmas holiday ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ food drive campaign,” the fire department said in a press release.
“One of the seven local churches we deliver to has told us that their supplies are completely gone and the six other food pantries are all very low,” WRFD president Mike Hammer said.
First Student bus company has donated a bus, which is parked at the Wading River Fire Department headquarters on North Country Road. The fire department will begin accepting donations there on Sunday.
The non-perishable foods and canned goods that will be collected during the holidays outside the King Kullen supermarket, will be delivered to the seven area churches and food banks on Sunday, Jan. 6.
Residents may also place donations into the school bus at the fire house.
Canned goods will be collected until the first weekend in January.
Ex-captain Thomas Whelan will be running the food drive this year, with help from the volunteer firefighters, EMS rescue personnel and the local Boy Scout Troop 94.
“I’d like to say thank you to all residents for their patience and kind words at the entrance to King Kullen,” Whelan said.
