Riverhead Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith will give her 2019 “State of the Town” address on Monday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Riverhead Town Hall.
All are invited to attend.
Jens-Smith broke with tradition last year, giving the supervisor’s annual address in a public forum. In the past, the annual speech was delivered to a joint dinner meeting of the Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis clubs. The meetings, held at local restaurants, were always open to the public beyond club members and their guests. But they were never widely attended.
She said she thought it was important to give the address in a public forum that was free to attend.
The response last year was good, filling the town hall meeting room Jens-Smith’s supporters, business owners, civic group leaders and members of the general public, as well as staff members representing elected officials at other levels of government.
Her speech was also broadcast live on the cable public access channel and livestreamed on the town’s website.
