A Riverhead man was seriously hurt in a crash in Manorville Sunday afternoon.
John Liebegott, 60, who was operating a 2017 Harley Davidson westbound on Moriches-Middle Island Road in Manorville, was struck by a vehicle that had just run a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle, which sent it spinning into Liebegott’s bike, according to Suffolk County Police.
Police said Joseph Carpinella, 79, of Ronkonkoma was operating a 2018 Ford Fusion eastbound on Moriches-Middle Island Road at approximately 12:30 p.m. yesterday when he failed to stop at a four-way stop sign and hit a 2012 Toyota SR5 being driven northbound on Weeks Avenue by Thomas Bisagni, 48, of Shirley.
The Ford spun in the intersection and struck Liebegott’s motorcycle, police said.
Liebegott, of Riverhead, was airlifted by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
Carpinella and Bisagni were not injured, police said.
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating the crash.
All three vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
