Three people were shot at the Riverpointe Apartments on East Main Street early this morning by two men who entered an apartment and fired multiple rounds inside, according to Riverhead Town Police.
A 46-year-old woman, a 15-year-old boy and a 29-year old man sustained gunshot wounds, police said.
The assailants entered the apartment at 821 East Main Street and fired at the occupants sometime shortly before police were called to the scene at about 1:30 a.m., according to a press release.
The woman and boy were inside the apartment when responding officers arrived. They were treated at the scene and taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance. The boy, who was shot in the stomach and arm, was transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital due to the serious nature of his injuries, police said.
The 29-year-old man arrived at PBMC by private vehicle, police said. He was treated for multiple gunshot wounds to both legs and the female was treated for a gunshot to her knee, according to the report.
All of the injuries, while serious in nature, are considered non-life threatening in nature at this time, police said.
The incident does not appear to be a random act and at least one of the victims may have been the intended target, police said. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
