There was a blast of color at Roanoke Avenue Elementary School this morning.

Students, teachers, staff and parents got together for the second annual Roanoke Rockin’ Run that ended with a blast this morning — a color blast, that is, as kids tore open and tossed colored powder into the air.

That’s how the children celebrated completing a couple of hours of vigorous exercise running laps in the Riverhead schoolyard.

Each lap earned the runner a necklace. Runners traded in necklaces for prizes — the more necklaces, the better the prize.

The event was sponsored by the Roanoke PTO as a fundraiser for a soccer goal at the school, said PTO vice president Karma Marshall.
