Two men are facing first-degree robbery charges after beating and robbing a man at knifepoint yesterday in the area of Third Street, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release.

A man called police yesterday to report that he was standing outside his house when he was approached by two men who displayed a knife and struck him in the head while demanding his property, police said. The men removed his cell phone and cash, then fled the area on foot.

Responding officers interviewed the victim and while canvassing the area located two men matching the description provided by the victim, according to the report.

Police arrested Victorino Reynosa, 31, of Sag Harbor and Wilber Estuardo Garrido Veliz, 31, of Riverhead, on charges of Robbery in the First Degree. Reynosa was found to be in possession of narcotics, police said, and was additionally charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. Both men were processed and held for a.m. arraignment.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
