Updated, July 16: An air quality health advisory has been issued again today for Long Island. It remains in effect until 11 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Long Island for today and tomorrow, beginning 11 a.m. today and ending 8 p.m. Friday.

The state has also issued an air quality health advisory for Long Island until 11 p.m. today due to high levels of the pollutant ozone in the air.

Temperatures could reach 90 degrees today and tomorrow on the North Fork. Combined with high humidity, temperatures could feel as high as 99 today and 103 tomorrow, according to the weather service.

Heat index values at these levels can increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially for seniors or those with chronic health problems. Strenous outdoor physical activity should be limited.

High levels of ozone today can also create an additional risk for the very young and those with pre-existing lung or heart conditions. An air quality health advisory is issued when the air quality index is over 100 for the pollutant ozone.

The heat advisory is currently set to expire Friday evening. High temperatures this weekend are forecast to stay in the mid to low 80s, with thunderstorms likely in the afternoons and evenings on both Saturday and Sunday.
