Thanks to the intervention of a Good Samaritan and the keen eye of a Riverhead Police K9 officer, police arrested two teens they said beat and robbed a 35-year-old man at the intersection of West Main Street and Griffing Avenue late last night.
A passing motorist called police at 11:23 p.m. after witnessing a male tackle another man in the intersection, forcing him to the ground in the roadway, police said. A second male approached and both began kicking and punching the victim, the motorist told police.
According to the police report, the motorist turned his car around to assist the victim. The two assailants then fled northbound on Griffing Avenue. The victim told the motorist he had been robbed of his money and his sneakers.
After calling police, the motorist waited with the victim for police arrival.
While responding to the scene, a Riverhead Police K9 officer observed two males fleeing northbound on Griffing Avenue in the area of Railroad Avenue, police said. The K9 officer stopped the subjects and upon further investigation they were identified as the subjects who punched, kicked and robbed the victim, police said.
Francisco Pablo, 18, and a 17-year-old male from Flanders were arrested and transported to Riverhead Police headquarters for processing on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree, police said.
The victim was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was treated and released for minor injuries, according to the police report.
