The seventh annual ‘Wo/Men Empower Wo/Men’ event hosted by the Butterfly Effect Project will be held on Sunday, May 22 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Riverhead Moose Lodge. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.

The event honors unsung heroes in the Riverhead community and recognizes the programs and participants at BEP. It will feature a presentation of awards, guest speakers, performances by the butterflies, catered buffet, an auction and more.

Honorees this year are: Marilyn Banks-Winter, founding president and co-chair of the African American Educational and Cultural Festival; Christine Tona, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the Riverhead Central School District; Dwayne Eleazer, president of President of STOP THE VIOLENCE and Riverhead High School student and butterfly Azharia Allen.

Tickets are $40 for adults, $20 for children (6-17) and $10 for butterflies and children ages five or below. To purchase tickets, visit the Butterfly Effect Project’s website.
