A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 4 p.m., the National Weather Service said in a statement this afternoon.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail is anticipated with this storm, the weather service said.

The warning is in effect for Riverhead and the surrounding area, including Calverton, Hampton Bays, East Quogue, Flanders, Aquebogue, Jamesport and Laurel.

Large hail, damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning, as well as torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, the weather service said.

Move indoors immediately.

Flash flooding is possible. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A flood advisory is in effect until 5 p.m.
