A 22-year-old Flanders man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries last night after a motor vehicle accident on Flanders Road, Southampton Town Police said in a press release.

Police said William Hynes was operating a a 1999 Kawasaki motorcycle when he rear-ended a 2014 Kia that was stopped in traffic west of Long Neck Boulevard at about 7:25 p.m.

The driver of the Kia, Shaki Walker, 34, of Speonk, and his 12-year-old passenger, were uninjured, police said.

Flanders Fire Department and Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance responded to the scene. Suffolk County Police Aviation transported Hynes to Stony Brook. Southampton Town Police Detective Division responded to investigate the crash and New York State Police responded for accident reconstruction.

No charges have been filed and no criminality is suspected at this time, police said.
