Jamesport Fire Department rescued five people from the Long Island Sound off Iron Pier this morning, after the 16-foot aluminum boat they were riding in capsized.

Jamesport Fire Department was dispatched at 11:28 a.m. Firefighters responded and launched the FD rescue boat.

Four of the five people in the water, all adults, were wearing life jackets, Jamesport Fire Department Assistant Chief Dan Doroski said. First responders were able to pull all five people out of the water and onto the JFD boat, he said.

“Jamesport Fire Department would like to remind everyone to make sure you have life jackets for everyone on board the vessel,” Doroski said.

Riverhead Fire Department, Riverhead Police, Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance, Mattituck Fire Department, Southold Police and the U.S. Coast Guard all responded to assist, Doroski said.
